Hatha Foundation
The base of every other style. Asana, pranayama, kriya — held longer, alignment-focused. Ideal first 8 weeks.
Rooted in tradition. Guided by purpose.
Shanti Yoga Studio · Bengaluru. Founder Ananya Joshi (E-RYT 500 · Bihar School of Yoga lineage). Hatha · Ashtanga · Iyengar · Yin · pranayama · therapeutic 1-on-1 · prenatal · corporate wellness. We teach yoga the way it was taught to us — slowly, with breath, and without performance.
Ananya started practising yoga at 13 with her grandfather, a railway engineer who spent his retirement translating Patanjali into Marathi. She left a 7-year marketing career at Mindshare to spend three years at the Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, under Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati. She founded Shanti in 2014 in a single 800-sqft Koramangala studio. Today, Shanti has three Bengaluru studios and is the only yoga school in the city that anchors every class to the Patanjali sutra-pada.
"Yoga is the stilling of the mind's fluctuations. That's the second sutra of the first chapter. Everything else — the asana, the philosophy, the music we don't play — is downstream of that one sentence."
Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is our syllabus. We don't teach "yoga-fitness" — we teach the eight limbs in their lived order: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi.
No class exceeds 12 mats. Adjustments are hands-on but invited (we ask first). Prenatal, post-natal, knee-injury, lower-back — every body has its own version of the asana, and we find it together.
No "playlist yoga", no boom-box flows, no influencer-poses. We chant the Patanjali invocation, hold the asana, breathe, and move on. The point of practice is to still the fluctuations of the mind — and that needs silence, not stimulation.
Ananya studied 8 years under Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati at Munger and 3 years at RIMYI under the Iyengar family. Every teacher at Shanti has trained 200+ hrs in either lineage — no weekend-certification shortcuts.
Every class is capped, hand-adjusted, and chant-opened. Rotate styles, stay with one — both are taught here.
The base of every other style. Asana, pranayama, kriya — held longer, alignment-focused. Ideal first 8 weeks.
Pattabhi Jois's 6-series sequence. Mysore-style on Tuesdays + Saturdays — self-led, teacher-adjusted.
Props-led precision — bolsters, blocks, straps, ropes. Anchored to BKS Iyengar's "Light on Yoga" syllabus.
3–7 minute holds in floor poses with full prop support. Deep fascia work + nervous-system reset.
Anulom-vilom · Kapalabhati · Bhramari · Sheetali, then 20-min silent dhyana. Breathwork-only morning sit.
Ob-gyn-cleared sequences for hip-opening, pelvic floor, lower-back relief. Trained doula on call.
Knee · lower-back · cervical · PCOS · hypertension · post-surgery. Built on Kaivalyadhama Yoga-Therapy syllabus.
On-site or off-site sessions for engineering / HR / leadership teams. Desk-yoga + breathwork + 1-day retreats.
Every class begins with a consent check — "is touch-adjustment OK for you today?" We respect both answers, every class. When you say yes, our teachers move alongside the asana — not on top of it. A foot here, a knee there, a hand on the sacrum to remind the body where its centre is.
Class size is capped at 10–12 mats so each adjustment is felt. Mysore-style Ashtanga sessions are by invitation after 8 weeks of led-class to ensure the form is in your body before you self-lead the sequence.
Private sessions live in a separate quiet room. Each is preceded by a 30-min intake — sleep, digestion, breath patterns, injury history, current medications. We then build a 6-week protocol you can carry back to your mat at home. Your physician's notes are welcome and integrated.
Certified by the Indian Yoga Association for therapy-grade practice. We do not claim to replace medical care — we work alongside it. Hypertension, mild-to-moderate anxiety, lower-back, cervical, PCOS, perimenopause, post-natal recovery are the most common reasons people walk in.
Drop in, swap, restart. Your monthly pass is valid across all 3 Bengaluru studios.

Patanjali wrote 196 sutras, organised across four chapters — Samadhi-pada, Sadhana-pada, Vibhuti-pada, Kaivalya-pada. We open every class with one sutra, in Sanskrit, with a 60-second translation. Across a year of practice, students walk away having heard and held all 196.
We also host quarterly Philosophy Sundays — free for members — where Ananya unpacks one chapter with reading, Q&A, and chant.
Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.
The asana is steady and comfortable — both, together.
Practice becomes firmly grounded when attended to for a long time, without break, with reverence.
It is achieved by relaxing effort and merging with the infinite.

“Mere lower-back ka 12-saal purana issue tha — desk job, 2 herniated discs, MRI mein dikha. Physiotherapy aur cortisone se kuch hua nahi. Ananya ji ne 6-month ka therapeutic protocol diya — daily 25-min asana, twice-a-week 1-on-1, breath count. Aaj saal-bhar baad pain-free hoon. Stronger than I have ever been.”
“I was 28 weeks pregnant when I joined Shanti's prenatal class. The pelvic-floor sequencing got me through labour without an epidural and the breath-pacing got me through the second-stage push. My OB at Manipal had cleared the practice — and Ananya knew exactly which asanas to skip in trimester 3. We are now back, this time as part of the post-natal cohort.”
“मैं 8 साल से Iyengar method सीख रहा था Pune में, लेकिन Bengaluru shift होने के बाद कोई authentic studio नहीं मिल रहा था। Shanti में Ananya की teaching वही है — props, alignment, holds — बिना किसी "fitness-yoga" के dilution के। Mysore-Ashtanga की Saturday class भी serious practitioners के लिए है, beginners के लिए नहीं। यह discipline बहुत कम जगह मिलती है।”
“We brought Ananya in to lead a 4-week wellness sprint for our 84-person engineering org at Razorpay in Q3-2024. She did a 60-min Tuesday + Thursday on-site session, plus a 1-day Saturday silent retreat at our HSR campus. Sleep + focus scores in our quarterly engagement survey moved 11 points. We are renewing for FY26 — quarterly cadence.”
“I am 67 and I have been doing yoga since 1982 — Pune Iyengar, Mysore Ashtanga, three trips to Munger. Most "yoga studios" in Bengaluru today are gym-yoga in disguise. Shanti is the real thing. They open with the Patanjali invocation, they teach in lineage, and Ananya knows when to stop a student from over-reaching. That is the rarer gift.”
We don't believe in trial-week passes or sign-up funnels. Walk in, drop your shoes at the door, take a free class, and decide afterwards whether the practice fits you. That's how yoga has been taught for two thousand years and we don't see why we should change it.
Drop by any of our 3 studios — Koramangala, HSR Layout, Indiranagar — between 7 AM and 8 PM. Or WhatsApp Ananya for a 15-min studio walk-through.
We sit you down for a 10-min intake — current practice, body history, current goals — then place you in the right entry-class. First class is free for residents.
After the free class, choose drop-in, monthly, quarterly, or annual. Or stay drop-in for a couple of weeks — no pressure either way.
Download the Shanti app, book your first three classes, and let your teacher know which one feels right. Your sadhana has begun.

Start with Hatha Foundation. It is taught at a beginner-friendly pace with explicit alignment cues and longer holds — exactly how the body learns the asana. Most students stay 6–8 weeks in Hatha before moving into Ashtanga or Iyengar. Your free first class is the right place to ask any anxieties out loud.
Almost certainly yes — but we will need a 30-min therapeutic intake first. Bring your physician's notes if available. We modify every asana to your range of pain-free motion, and we never push into compensation. We do not, however, accept students mid-flare-up of a herniated disc or post-surgery within 6 weeks — wait for clearance.
Hatha is the umbrella — slower, alignment-led, breath-anchored. Ashtanga is a fixed 6-series sequence built around vinyasa (breath-with-movement). Iyengar is alignment-obsessed and uses props (blocks, straps, ropes) to help every body find the asana. Yin holds floor poses for 3–7 minutes to work the fascia. We teach all four because each serves a different season of practice.
All classes are taught in English with Sanskrit asana names. Pranayama, philosophy, and 1-on-1 therapeutic sessions are bilingual — English + Hindi, switched as needed. The Munger silence-retreat is conducted entirely in Hindi.
Drop-in is ₹500 per class. Monthly Sadhana is ₹3,800 (unlimited group classes across all 3 studios). Quarterly is ₹9,800 (₹3,266/mo). Annual is ₹34,800 (₹2,900/mo). No joining fee, no auto-renewal, no minimum lock-in. Cancel anytime via the Shanti app.
Yes. We accept students from week 14 (start of trimester 2) once your obstetrician has cleared low-impact exercise. Trimester-3 students continue with deeper pelvic-floor and breath-pacing work. We have a trained doula on call for our prenatal Tuesday + Thursday + Saturday sessions.
Yes. Corporate packages start at ₹48,000/quarter for up to 30 staff (on-site at your office or off-site at any of our studios). We have run programs at Flipkart, Ola, ThoughtWorks, Razorpay, and Wipro. Format options: weekly desk-yoga, fortnightly breath-work, quarterly 1-day silent retreat. Email hello@apnisite.in.
Once a year, in late February, Ananya leads a 7-day silent retreat at the Bihar School of Yoga campus in Munger — full noble silence, 4 AM – 9 PM schedule, vegetarian sattvic ashram meals. Annual members get one free seat. Quarterly + monthly members can join at ₹38,000 all-inclusive (travel ex-Bengaluru, food, lodging, instruction).
Closed only on Diwali (1 day), Holi (1 day), Independence + Republic Day (half-day with single afternoon class). All other days run normal schedule. Festival workshops — Mahashivaratri all-night, Guru Purnima morning sit, Navratri 9-day discipline — are open to all members and free of charge.
Absolutely yes. Roughly 35% of our active members are men, and our Mysore-style Ashtanga + 6 AM Pranayama sessions skew slightly male. If your concern is about feeling out-of-place — every studio in Bengaluru is mixed-gender, and at Shanti you will sit and breathe alongside engineers, doctors, retired teachers, founders, and homemakers, women and men alike.
